Return to the Word

Jesus emphasizes the priority of putting God first not only in his pronunciation of the Great Commandment, but also in Matthew 6:33 -- “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 -- Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all you heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and you shall talk about them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (Repeated in 11:18-21 & emphasized by Jesus in Matthew 22:34-40)

Romans 8:28 -- All things work together for good for those who love the Lord.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 -- I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah -- not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. … I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts, and I will be their God and they will be My people.

Ezekiel 11:19-20 -- I will give them one heart and I will put a new spirit within them. I will take the stony heart out of their flesh and give them a heart of compassion … and they shall be My people and I will be their God.

Matthew 26:26-28 -- Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take, eat! This is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you! For this is my blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” [JHK Note: The New Covenant which is promised in Jeremiah in the Old Testament is fulfilled in Jesus in the New Testament. In short, Jesus IS the New Covenant, the man who has a heart of flesh, rather than a heart of stone, the man in whose heart, mind, and soul the Heart and Word of God is alive! Jesus is Emmanuel -- “God with us.”]

Matthew 24:35 & Luke 21:33 -- Heaven and Earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. [See also Psalm 102:25-27 & Hebrews 1:10-12 & Isaiah 51:6]

Isaiah 42:10 -- Sing to the Lord a new song and His praise from the ends of the Earth. [See also Psalms 33:3, 40:3, 98:1, 144:9, 149:1, and Revelation 5:8-10]

Matthew 5:48 -- Be ye perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Psalm 96:9 -- Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

Psalms 95-101 are all beautiful songs of praise to God.
