There’s a “resonance” between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Did you know that the eternal God has an eternal companion? Let’s read the Bible and find out!

PROVERBS 8:22-31 – The Lord possessed me [Wisdom] at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an Earth. When there were no depths, I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth. While as yet He had not made the Earth or the fields or the primal dust of the world. When He prepared the heavens, I was there. When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, when He established the clouds above, when He strengthened the fountains of the deep, when He assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the Earth, then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; and I was His daily delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in His inhabited world, and my delight was with the sons of men.

JHK Note: It seems that Wisdom is God’s intimate companion, co-eternal with the Creator, and the two are one as husband and wife are one. The comparison to a married couple is indicated in the following two passages, which employ the same words. PROVERBS 8:35 – Whoever finds Me [Wisdom] finds life and obtains favor from the Lord. PROVERBS 18:22 – He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.

JHK Note: Wisdom and Yahweh speak with similar voices, resonating with one another, like the twin prongs of a tuning fork, as shown in the following Scriptures. PROVERBS 8:17 – I [Wisdom] love those who love me and those who seek me diligently will find me. JEREMIAH 29:13  -- You will seek Me [Yahweh] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

JHK Note: The profound meaning of such texts is enhanced by the astoundingly poetic language, as we reflect that modern English began with the King James Bible and the poems of William Shakespeare. Wisdom is feminine and comparable to a wife. PROVERBS 3:13, 15, 18 & 8:11 & 31:10 – Happy is the man who finds wisdom ... She is more precious than rubies ... She is a tree of life ... and happy are all who retain her ... For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her ... Who can find a virtuous wife? Her worth is far above rubies. (See also Proverbs 5:18-19 & Malachi 2:14)

JHK Note: Resonating with Proverbs 8:22-31 in the Old Testament are the passages at the beginning of the Gospel of John in the New Testament which reveal the eternal nature and creative activity of “The Word,” which is made substantial, incarnated, in Jesus. So it seems that God, Wisdom, and the Word pre-exist and are partners in Creation. JOHN 1:1-5 & 14 – In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the  darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. ... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We beheld His glory – the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. TBQ: Is “Wisdom” just another name for the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, co-eternal with God?
