                                                Man Repents & God Relents

 

“Return to me and I will return to you,” says the Lord of Hosts. (Malachi 3:7)

 

“Rend your heart and not your garments! Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness; and He relents from doing harm.” (Joel 2:13)

 

Contrition:  “Thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I dwell in the high and holy place with hi who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.’” (Isaiah 57:15)  *  “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)  *  “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart – these, O God, You will not despise.” (Psalm 51:17)  *  “On this one I will look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, who trembles at My word.” (Isaiah 66:2)  *  “The Lord ... has sent me to heal the brokenhearted.” (Isaiah 61:1)  *  “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

 

Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to the Lord and He will have mercy on him ... and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7)

 

Wash yourselves! Make yourselves clean! Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good. Seek justice, rebuke the oppressor, defend the fatherless, plead for the widow. (Isaiah 1:16-17)

 

“Come now and let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword,” for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. (Isaiah 1:18-20)

 

O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness that you may be saved! How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you? (Jeremiah 4:14)

 

Separation from God & Need for a Redeemer: Isaiah 59.

“Return, backsliding Israel,” says the Lord. “I will not cause My anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,” says the Lord. “I will not remain angry forever. Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against the Lord your God and have scattered your charms to alien deities under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice,” says the Lord.

 

O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is mercy and abundant redemption. He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities. (Psalm 130:7-8)

 

“These are things you shall do: Speak each man the truth to his neighbor and give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace. Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor, and do not love a false oath, for all these are things that I hate,” says the Lord.
