John 4:1-42 -- Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at a well in the city of Sychar. This is an extended episode resulting in many converts, but also contains this important exchange: “The woman said to him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming’ (who is called Christ). ‘When he comes, he will tell us all things.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I who speak to you am He.’”
John 6:22-59 -- In another extended episode, Jesus admonishes: “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life.” He then goes on to explain: “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.”
John 7:28-29 -- “I know Him, for I am from Him, and He sent me.”
John 8:12 & 9:1-41 -- In a long Chapter 9 about a man born blind who receives his sight, Jesus discourses about true blindness and true vision: “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life. .. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
John 8:13-30 & 8:58 -- “I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me. .. I bear witness of myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness of me. .. I am going away, and .. where I go you cannot come. .. You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world. .. If you do not believe that I am he, you will die in your sins. .. Before Abraham was, I AM.”
John 10:1-30 -- “I am the door of the sheep. .. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for his sheep. .. I and my Father are one.”
John 11:25 -- In this long, important, central chapter relating the death and resurrection of Lazarus, Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life.”
John 13:13 & 19 -- “I am Teacher and Lord. .. Believe that I am He.”
John 14:6, 9, 11 & 20 -- “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. .. He who has seen me has seen the Father .. I am in the Father and the Father in me. .. I am in the Father, and you in me, and I in you.”
John 15:1-8 -- “I am the true vine, my Father is the Vinedresser .. and you are the branches. .. If anyone does not abide in me, he is cast out, thrown into the fire, and burned. .. If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
John 18:1-11 -- When arrested in the garden, Jesus freely admits, “I am He.”
John 18:37 & 19:19 -- Questioned by Pilate, Jesus answers, “You say rightly that I am a king.” Pilate agrees and writes: “JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
