World’s Shortest Sermon:  God is Love! Do all things in love.

God is love. (Whoever lives in love lives in God and God in them. 1 John 4:16 & John 15:4)

God is good (and His love endures forever. Psalms 100:5, 106:1, 107:1)

Do all things in love. (1 Corinthians 16:14)

Love covers all sins. (Proverbs 10:12 & 17:9)

Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:8 in larger context of 13:1-13)

Love the Lord your God (with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5, 11:1 & 11:22-23, Matthew 22:37-38, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27).

Love your neighbor as yourself. (Leviticus 19:18, Mark 12:31, Luke 10:27, Romans 13:9-10 {Love is the fulfillment of the law.}, Galatians 5:14 {The entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command.}, James 2:8 {the royal law found in Scripture}).

Love your enemies (and pray for those who persecute you. Matthew 5:44 in context of 5:43-48. * If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. For in so doing, you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the Lord will reward you. Proverbs 25:21-22 )

Love one another (as I have loved you. John 13:34, 15:12 & 17, 1 John 3, 1 Peter 1:22 {Love one another deeply from the heart.}, Ephesians 5:2 {Walk in the way of love.})

Jesus has compassion on individuals and multitudes. (Matthew 9:36, 14:14, 15:32, 20:34, Mark 6:34 & 8:2, Luke 15:20)

Be perfect as your Father in Heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48) * Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. (Leviticus 11:44, 19:2, 20:7 & 26, 1 Peter 1:15-16, 1 Thess. 4:7) * You shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. (Exodus 19:6)

Seek Me and live. Return to Me and I will return to you. (Amos 5:4 & Zechariah 1:3)

A friend loves at all times (and a brother is born for a time of adversity. Proverbs 17:17. * Contrast Cain who goes into a field with Abel and kills him in Genesis 4:8 with Saul’s son Jonathan who goes into a field with David but “loved him as his own soul” in 1 Samuel 18:1-4 and 1 Samuel Chapters 19 & 20, especially 20:11, and 2 Samuel 1, especially 1:26).

How good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity .. for there the Lord commanded the blessing, life forevermore. [JHK Note: Psalm 133 is about Moses anointing Aaron as high priest. What’s important here is that the elder brother Aaron understands that God has chosen his younger brother (by three years) to be the leader of the Children of Israel, thus restoring in a powerful way the murder of Abel by Cain. It is on this basis of unity of brothers that God uses them to free the Israelites from their bondage in Egypt.]
